A dedicated team in an exceptional location. Enjoy wonderful hours in the restaurant, located away from stress and hectic, an old hermitage that has been extensively restored. The unbeatable outdoor area with panoramic views borders on the private garden. Here you can dine directly under the starry sky on mild summer nights. In the early and late season, our indoor area is a romantic place for a quiet evening for two or for a rustic business lunch. We don’t have a TV on in the background, but you can just watch the tomatoes grow while you eat. In addition to the birds, chickens and peacocks, the neighbors’ sheep also provide the sound in the background. Binicanella is not a “place to be”, not a sterile, shrill place, but a place where you can still feel rural Mallorca.

A little history

Binicanella is a grill restaurant near Son Servera / Mallorca that has been known for about two decades. But the history of this house is much older, going back several centuries. The name Binicanella is of Arabic origin and means family or tribe of Canella. The first writings mentioning Binicanella date back to the 13th century. In 1229, Jacob the First of Aragon conquered Mallorca, ending more than 500 years of Arab rule. After the Christian conquest of the island, the island was divided. One part belonged to the king, the other part was divided among the nobles who helped Jacob of Aragon. So it was that the Rafal (small estate) of Binicanella was given to the king, but some time later passed into private ownership. Little was known about this farm until the early 19th century. At that time some monks bought the farm and laid out fields and the garden. They led a simple life here for over 150 years. The hermitage was then sold again in the early 1970s and since then has housed the Binicanella restaurant. On the outside of the building you can still see the remains of the old monastery very well. The garden that was laid out back then is still used today for the restaurant’s fresh vegetables. Thanks to the many guests, it has been possible to preserve this beautiful old building – thank you very much.

Binicanella ist ein seit ca. zwei Jahrzehnten bekanntes Grillrestaurant in der Nähe von Son Servera / Mallorca. Doch die Geschichte dieses Hauses ist viel älter und geht mehrere Jahrhunderte zurück.Der Name Binicanella ist arabischen Ursprungs und bedeutet Familie oder Stamm von Canella. Die ersten Schriften, die Binicanella erwähnen, stammen aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Im Jahr 1229 eroberte Jacob der Erste von Aragon Mallorca und setze somit einer über 500 Jahre andauernden Herrschaft der Araber ein Ende. Nach der christlichen Eroberung der Insel wurde die Insel aufgeteilt. Ein Teil stand dem König zu, der andere Teil wurde unter den Adeligen, die Jacob von Aragon halfen, aufgeteilt. So kam es, daß der Rafal (Landhaus mit kleinem Grundbesitz) von Binicanella dem König zugesprochen wurde, einige Zeit später jedoch in Privatbesitz überging. Bis Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts wußte man wenig über diesen Bauernhof. Damals erstanden einige Mönche den Bauernhof und legten Felder und den Garten an. Über 150 Jahre führten Sie hier ein einfaches Leben. Die Einsiedelei wurde dann Anfang der 70. Jahre wieder verkauft und beherbergt seit dieser Zeit das Restaurant Binicanella. Außen am Gebäude kann man noch sehr gut die Überreste des alten Klosters erkennen. Auch der damals angelegte Garten wird heute immer noch für die frischen Gemüse des Restaurants genutzt. Dank der vielen Gäste ist es möglich gewesen, dieses wunderschöne alte Gemäuer zu erhalten – vielen Dank.
